Not sure if this may be certain, but I think I found some weird similarities between some cars from the early Fast and Furious movies and some tuners from Cars. Here's what I think:
Boost kinda looks like he was partially based on both Letty's Nissan 240SX (TF&TF) and Roman Pearce's Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder (2F2F).
While DJ doesn't have as many possible Fast and Furious influences, I can say he was possibly based on Vince's Nissan Maxima, Jesse's Volkswagen Jetta and Hector's Honda Civic (all from TF&TF).
Wingo looks like he got partial inspiration from Brian's Mitsubishi Eclipse (TF&TF) and Brian's Mitsubishi Evo (2F2F).
And Snot Rod, well, he looks like a blend of Dominic's Dodge Charger and the Dodge Challenger from 2F2F.
This odd coincidences also extend to Tokyo Mater (of which I confess I'm still terrified of that short to this day). Let's see:
Looks like Mater's modified appearance got partial inspiration from Neela's RX-8 and Sean's Nissan Silvia S15.
McQueen's modified appearance has likely some cues and insiprations from Han's Mazda RX-7 and Sean's Mitsubishi Evo.
Kabuto was partially inspired by Takashi's Nissan 350z
And it's no doubt for me that Kabuto's ninjas were partially inspired by the black Civics from TF&TF.
