Allinol is a petrochemical product and flammable liquid used as a fuel for spark-ignited internal combustion engines, invented by billionaire, inventor and explorer Miles Axlerod.

Axlerod attracts media attention with his solo journey around the world without GPS but disappears after running out of fuel in the desert. He resurfaces 36 days later, claiming to have created a new fuel from natural elements. Upon his return, he announces the sale of his oil company and his conversion to electricity, focusing on researching clean and renewable fuel. He commercializes this ethanol under the name Allinol and promotes it during the World Grand Prix, an international competition bringing together the best racers for three races. However, during the races, numerous engine explosions occur, raising concerns about Allinol's safety. Despite Axlerod's assurances, public opinion turns against this ethanol. During the final race in London, Mater reveals Axlerod's plan to use Allinol, which is simply a modified gasoline, to manipulate public opinion and maintain the oil monopoly by undermining the credibility of alternative energies.

In Cars 2, the first mention of Allinol appears during The Mel Dorado Show. During the show, Mel Dorado explains the history of Allinol's creation. Miles Axlerod, an explorer and billionaire, known as the first explorer to cross the Abyssinian Desert, is also the owner of the oil company Axlerod Oil. Around 2011, he gains media attention when he embarks on a new solo exploration, aiming to travel around the world without GPS. He departs from Port Sudan and begins his journey toward equatorial Africa[1][2]. However, shortly after the start of his journey, he runs out of fuel and finds himself stranded alone in the desert. During this period, while the world has no news of the businessman, Axlerod Industries' stock begins to fall[3]. While most people believed him to be dead, he reappears 36 days later, having restarted his journey thanks to a fuel he claimed to have refined himself, made from elements he found in nature.

Upon his return, he announces the immediate sale of his oil company and its extraction sites. He declares that he has since converted to electricity, with an engine change and the installation of solar panels on his bodywork, along with a drastic change in his activities, stating that he wants to dedicate his life to researching a clean and renewable fuel. In 2011, he announces the commercialization of this ethanol: Allinol. To promote it, he launches an international competition, the World Grand Prix, bringing together the best race cars for three races around the world.

The first race of the World Grand Prix takes place in Tokyo. The use of an entirely new fuel in such an important competition generates significant attention around Allinol. At the end of this first race, three racers (Miguel Camino, Rip Clutchgoneski, and Max Schnell) experience engine blowouts. This high number of dropouts due to engine failure (3 out of 11 drivers) seems excessive, and rumors begin to circulate about the possible danger of Allinol. In a press conference after the Tokyo Grand Prix, Miles Axlerod states, "Allinol is safe! Alternative fuel is safe! There is no way my fuel caused these cars to flame out!" However, the race stewards do not make a statement regarding the impact of Allinol on the dropouts that occurred during the race.

Before the start of the second race, the Porto Corsa Grand Prix, Miles Axlerod speaks at a press conference about Allinol, the main controversy surrounding the competition. He declares, "An independent panel of scientists has determined that Allinol is completely safe, okay? Safe! There it is". During the race, two racers (Carla Veloso and Nigel Gearsley) experience engine explosions halfway through the race, followed by Shu Todoroki's engine exploding in the final lap. This leads to a severe crash involving Miguel Camino, Max Schnell, Raoul ÇaRoule, and Rip Clutchgoneski, who are unable to brake in time and pile up on the bridge. Public opinion on Allinol turns definitively negative. Along the track, Allinol advertising posters are vandalized, and many Allinol customers throw away their cans. A few minutes after the finish, Brent Mustangburger interviews Axlerod for Racing Sport Network. Axlerod states that the final race in London will indeed take place. However, when asked about the mandatory use of Allinol, he announces, "I cannot, in good conscience, continue to risk the lives of any more race cars. The final race will not be run on Allinol." A few seconds later, it's Lightning McQueen, the winner of the race, who speaks up and tells Darrell Cartrip that he intends to race with Allinol for the final race. This announcement is completely unexpected, as no other driver chooses to run with this ethanol.

At the London Grand Prix, each driver uses a traditional unleaded fuel from a brand originating from the country they represent. The only exception is Lightning McQueen, who uses Allinol. Shortly before the start, Axlerod enters the pit lane and personally thanks McQueen for giving him one last chance. During the race, Mater accuses Miles Axlerod of being responsible for the accidents in order to profit, doing so in the VIP stand of the race. The area is quickly evacuated while Mater, with a bomb placed in place of his air filter, presents his evidence to the billionaire. Axlerod deactivates the bomb vocally, thereby proving all of Mater's accusations before being arrested. In reality, Miles Axlerod never converted to electric power. The entire story about the creation of Allinol was merely a commercial strategy to serve his plan. Allinol was actually just regular gasoline, modified so that significant electromagnetic exposure would cause an engine to explode. His oil operations were never sold, and the purpose of the competition was to manipulate public opinion about alternative energies to maintain the monopoly of oil. Despite attempts at obfuscation, American and British intelligence services discovered before the start of the World Grand Prix that the largest oil reserve ever found had been discovered in the Pacific, and it was owned by Miles Axlerod.

Features[]

An investigation by British intelligence concluded that Allinol is actually regular gasoline, likely sourced from Axlerod Oil, whose composition is modified so that exposure to electromagnetic waves gives it dangerous properties where the fuel-air mixture falls within explosive limits. In addition to this chemical alteration, Allinol is dyed green to give it a cleaner appearance.

Nigel Gearsley, targeted by the infrared ray of the EMP weapon, on the casino bridge.

It is very likely that the electromagnetic wave emitted by the EMP weapon mentioned by Professor Z is infrared. Infrared is indeed capable of transferring its radiation directly, within a certain wavelength range, to an object that can be heated. The dummy camera emits radiation aimed at the hood of the targeted vehicle, causing the Allinol to heat up. According to Professor Zündapp, the Allinol heats up to its boiling point, gas bubbles form, and the Allinol changes from a liquid to a gaseous state. As it vaporizes, the fuel expands, putting pressure on the engine block. This causes oil to invade the cylinders and spread throughout the engine. With a low intensity of infrared, the damage caused by the boiling Allinol requires the replacement of the entire lower engine. However, at maximum exposure, the explosion of the engine block results in the destruction of the vehicle. It is therefore very likely that the primary modification to Allinol is the lowering of its boiling point.

Trivia[]

  • The leaf design on the Allinol logo is a modified version of the plant design used for The Land Pavilion logo at the Walt Disney World Resort.
  • The fact that Allinol is used in endurance racing is likely a reference to the recent introduction of alternative fuels to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the American Le Mans Series. Some of the Le Mans Prototypes use alternative fuels in the ALMS as a part of the Green X Challenge championship. Also, in 2014, Formula One car engines were made more environmentally-friendly and fuel-efficient.
  • In the DS and 3DS versions of Cars 2: The Video Game, there is an Allinol race car competing in the Piston Cup with the number #23.
