- This article is about the technique. For the character of the same name, see Boost.
Boost is a technique in the Cars series, most notably in the video games. It allows the player to go faster for a few moments. Performing this technique requires for the player to press or hold whichever button corresponds to the action in Cars: The Videogame, Cars: Mater-National Championship, Cars: Race-O-Rama, Cars 2: The Video Game, Cars 3: Driven-To-Win, Disney Infinity, Disney Infinity: 2.0 Edition and Cars: Fast as Lightning, depending on which controller and control scheme the player is using.
In Cars: The Videogame, the three fuel tanks of boost are unlocked one-by-one by completing Boostin' with Fillmore, Rustbucket Race-O-Rama and Delinquent Road Hazards. In Cars: Mater-National Championship, the player will already have the first fuel tank, but can unlock the other tanks by finishing in the top 3 in Stadium Races 1 and 2. In Cars: Race-O-Rama, the boost meter can fill up quicker if the player drifts.
In Cars 2: The Video Game, Disney Infinity and Disney Infinity: 2.0 Edition, a turbo meter fills up when the player drifts, does tricks, collects fuel canisters, or jumps over blue and white striped platforms. They can use it to do a short mini-boost which will aid them to win the race. In Cars 2: The Video Game and Cars 3: Driven-To-Win, if the turbo meter is filled up, the player can perform an "In the zone" ability, which lets the player form a force field and travel at remarkable speeds. The turbo meter can hold up to four mini-boosts for the Cars characters, and three for the normal vehicles in the Disney Infinity series.
In Cars: Fast as Lightning, the player can get a boost either by pressing the pedal just when the countdown at the start says, "GO!" or by quickly tapping when crossing a blue circle on the track.
