"Now listen up, McQueen. You may be on pole, but you know nothin about road racing."
Chuck, Boom! Studios Comics

Chuck was the third acting crew chief of the Rust-eze racing team taking the place of an unidentified crew chief who in turn replaced the original Rust-eze crew chief, prior to his firing by Lightning McQueen due to the latter's preference of being a "one-man show". Chuck was a critical and somewhat inspirational coach, as he was known to lecture McQueen over his lack of road racing knowledge.

Appearance[]

Chuck is a big red Hummer H2 with silver accents. He is always seen wearing a headset.

Personality[]

Chuck appears to have been quite of a stereotypical tough guy; he was short-tempered, loud, bossy, and cynical towards Mcqueen but was calmer at the end after he gave up giving orders to Mcqueen.

History[]

Boom! Studios Comics[]

Chuck

Chuck coaches McQueen.

Chuck makes a physical appearance in a Boom! Studios Comics issue, where he is shown to be McQueen's former crew chief. He turns about to be very bossy and a tough cookie. After Chick bumps into Lightning, Chuck describes the behavior as rubbing and that rubbing is a part of racing. As Lightning passes a few cars, they pass him back at a turn, because he went to the the outside. At the next pit stop, Chuck yells at him for taking turns on the outside and says he should be taking the apex of the corner, which means the highest point, but Lightning did not know what an apex was. Since the other racers are having tire problems, Lightning's crew chief tells him to play it safe and take a pit stop on the next lap, but Lightning refuses and takes the lead. His crew chief is getting angry and begins yelling, but this does not get McQueen to head into the pits, so the crew chief gives up.

After Chuck's firing from the team, it's unknown what became of Chuck afterwards, though he probably found a new career.

Cars[]

Due to him being fired prior, Chuck does not appear in the film at all, but is indirectly mentioned by Darrell Cartrip in Cars. He says that McQueen recently fired his third crew chief in one season, and he is racing in the Dinoco 400 without any coaching.

McQueen also calls the leader of his mechanics Chuck, despite that not actually being his name. It is likely that McQueen confused their names.

Trivia[]

  • In the comic, he lacks visible ''Rust-Eze'' decals along with the other crew chiefs shown in the latter, despite this, if he were ever to appear in Cars he would likely have them as McQueen's original pit crew (such as Not Chuck) had the decals in the film when they aren't visible in the comic.
  • His personality is possibly the same as the Trunk Fresh Crew Chief who is described as a bossy and tough guy.
