- The competition is a parody of the Formula One racing series.
- A number of real-life Formula One drivers have had voice roles in the Cars series. Those who did are: Michael Schumacher, Mario Andretti, Lewis Hamilton, and David Hobbs. Other drivers who only had voice roles in international versions are: Niki Lauda, Mika Häkkinen, Giancarlo Fisichella, Jarno Trulli, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Vitaly Petrov, Jacques Villeneuve, Tiago Monteiro, and Emerson Fittipaldi.
- Despite the sport being named "Formula Racer", in the Polish version of Cars 2 it was translated as "Formuła 1", directly referencing Formula One.
- Despite the sport being based on Formula 1, Ayrton Senna and Vitaly Petrov are based on a Next-Gen Piston Cup race car and a World Torque Champion League race car respectively.
