Frank's Field is a large agricultural area in Radiator Springs, owned by Frank the combine and populated by the Tractors. It is a common setting in the Cars franchise, most often seen as a favorite spot of Mater and Lightning McQueen, who like to sneak in at night and play tractor-tipping. The fields are typically illustrated as vast, open plains with dirt paths and abundant grass, in contrast to the desert climate that surrounds the area.
According to reference sources, Frank runs his own harvesting program, threshing, gathering and cleaning grain, while watching over the Tractors, who plow the fields.[1][2] The fields are located somewhere outside of Downtown, with games such as Cars 2: The Video Game and Cars 3: Driven to Win illustrating them close by. In The World of Cars Online, Frank's Field appears inside of Fillmore's Fields, one of the town's main three districts and located to the northeast.
History[]
Cars[]
When Sheriff puts Mater in charge of watching Lightning McQueen overnight, the two sneak off to the Tractor Pasture, where Mater teaches McQueen how to play Tractor Tipping - one must simply drive up quietly to a sleeping Tractor and rev their horn, causing the startled Tractor to tip over. After McQueen revs his engine and wakes up all of the remaining Tractors simultaneously, Frank arrives, and Mater and McQueen make their escape, but forget to close the gate. The next day, the Tractors stampede Radiator Springs, causing trouble for the townsfolk.
Other appearances[]
It also appears in Cars: The Videogame, Cars: Mater-National Championship, and Unidentified Flying Mater. Frank's Field appears as a level in the PSP version of Cars: The Videogame.
Layout[]
The area appears to have many different fields, with each of the multiple mini-game levels of Tractor Tipping from Cars: The Video Game and Cars: Mater-National Championship taking place in a different, large area. These games include banked valleys and even water streams, and include large searchlights installed by Frank for security.
In Cars: Mater-National Championship, Frank is seen sleeping in a barn-like shed before awakening to patrol. In some levels, Red can be seen watering plants outside of a house, indicating he may live there just outside of the gated field.
