- "Hello, racing fans. Welcome to the Los Angeles 500. Final race of the Piston Cup season."
- —An unnamed announcer, Cars 3
The Los Angeles 500 is an event in Cars 3 that is held at the Los Angeles International Speedway. In 2016, it is the last race of the Piston Cup racing series season. At the race, seven-time winner Lightning McQueen crashes trying to beat Jackson Storm, the latter winning in first place, with Danny Swervez being the runner-up.
History[]
In 2016, the event is the last race of the 2016 Piston Cup Racing Series season. By then, most stock car race cars have been replaced by "Next-Generation" racers. Over nine-tenths through the race, seven-time veteran champion Lightning McQueen suffers a nearly fatal rollover crash after blowing his right rear tire, bringing out the red flag, and obviously doesn't continue racing. After the restart, the race continued until it finished, with rookie front-runner Jackson Storm placing first, with Danny Swervez placing second, Chase Racelott in third, and Tim Treadless ending fourth.
After the race, Jackson Storm, who was the racer with most points, won the 2016 Piston Cup.

Trivia[]
- Danny Swervez and Chase Racelott make their debut in this race.
- The movie implies that Lightning McQueen is the only veteran to be competing in this race. Several books based on the movie even state it directly. However, there are actually 10 other veterans that compete in this race along with him: Buck Bearingly, the Rev-N-Go Racer, Dino Draftsky, Ralph Carlow, Reb Meeker, Brian Spark, Rev Roadages, Darren Leadfoot, Ponchy Wipeout, and Murray Clutchburn. In the time between this race and the Florida 500, they were all replaced with Michael Rotor, M Fast Fong, Noah Gocek, Spikey Fillups, Rich Mixon, George New-Win, Will Rusch, Conrad Camber, Paul Conrev, and Sheldon Shifter, respectively.
- An early version of this scene was shown at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2017. The version shown at the auto show has slight dialogue, audio, and visual differences from the final version shown in theaters. For example, Lightning has his "Cars 3" paint job in the auto show version, instead of having his "Rust-eze Intro" paint job as seen in the movie.
- The Rev-N-Go Racer finished in the highest position among the veterans that were competing in this race, having finished in 11th.
- Chase Racelott and Eric Braker switch positions in some scenes. Same thing happens with Tim Treadless and Aaron Clocker.
- George New-Win suddenly appears on the track right after the race starts, this is an error, however, as George made his debut in the Piston Cup at the Florida 500, which takes place after this race.
- The pit row only has 25 team stands for the racers, even though there were 35 cars competing.
