Lightning catches up with Mack, but finds out that it wasn't Mack. It was a truck that reads "Jerry's Junk" on his trailer (most likely an earlier version of Jerry Recycled Batteries). The truck drives away, leaving Lightning at the crossing intersection. Lightning doesn't know what to do. A tumbleweed touches over him, and then, in the background, a coyote somehow howls, he gets jumpscared, and all of sudden, on his left, he sees the Interstate with a bunch of moving traffic, and quickly rushes towards it. Next, it gets dark, and then a thud happens. Lightning runs off the road, goes airborne, falls down a hill, and crashes into a bunch of branches. He bumps into something behind him. He turns to it, and turns out that it was actually a dead car, freaking Lightning out. He looks around, and more dead cars were everywhere (meaning that he ended up in a "graveyard"). One was even hanging on a tree. Several of them have branches growing through them. Lightning then imagines that some of those dead cars are about to grab him with tree branches. He runs into a fence. The fence gets tangled on him. On the other side of the fence was the grille of another dead car. Lightning gets back on the road and tries to run away from the dead car's grille. Lightning eventually gets untangled and runs away. The dead car's grille just falls over.
Trivia[]
The most likely reason why this scene was deleted was because of the dark, terrifying, and creepy elements. Psychologically because horrific events like the darkness and the dead cars can create unimaginable anxiety for people, especially children. The film is G-rated.
According to the title card, this scene was made in June 2002.
The graveyard scene was parodied and reused with some modifications in the The Radiator Springs 500½.
Jerry's Junk is very similar to Jerry Recycled Batteries.
The early version of Jerry was actually treated as a 1950 GMC 300.
The same line by Jerry Recycled Batteries "Turn on your lights, you moron!" was reused in the final film.
McQueen falling down the hill and hitting a nearby cactus was later reused during his failed race against Doc Hudson.
