Bio[]

Meet the Planes[]

  • The Piston Peak Railway transports millions of visitors to the Fusel Lodge every year. This is a huge job, and it takes a big engine; thankfully; Muir can handle the challenge. With enough coal, he can pull an astounding 18,000 tons of railcars behind him! With that much power, he'll be coming around the mountain just fine.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike Pramath, Muir's mouth is on the front of his smokebox door instead of his cowcatcher.
  • These types of engines were used most common on American railroads during the 1800s and 1830s until 1928.
  • Muir is likely based on a locomotive that worked on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad which was the Virginia and Truckee No. 13 Empire.
  • There are a few shots in the film where the animation on Muir's running gear is messed up, and his rods move incorrectly. Also, in one of these shots, his front set of drive wheels isn't turning while the other two are.
  • Muir is named after John Muir, the father of national parks.
  • When he fully stops towards the fire, this scene mighty be based off the tour bus stopping scene from the 2003 film 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure. Coincidentally, they're both from the same studio and play near the ending.
  • Muir is the second steam locomotive to appear in the Cars universe after Pramath, the latter being the first.
