Race car was an virtual avatar created and controlled by the player in The World of Cars Online.
Default customizations included the cars gender, eye and paint color, chassis, racing number and name created from already prepared samples. These actions could be done while creating your car, or in your Garage if you were already in the game.
Gender[]
Gender could be choosen by clicking the Boy or Girl options in your Garage. The only noticeable difference is that the Girl gender would have eyelashes while the Boy car won't.
Chassis shape[]
This feature allowed you to choose your prefered shape between 3 different car models. This feature had two parts, a basic and advanced option. Both these options could be used together to design a unique car.
Basic Chassis Options[]
The basic side of the Chassis editing process allowed you to select the different styles of chassis, which could be further edited by using the advanced options feature.
Advanced Chassis Options[]
In advanced options the pre-made selections would be replaced by a set of sliders. These allowed you to select the length and height of certain parts of your car. A Shuffle option could randomize your car sliders.
Body Color[]
While in the Test Track there was a total of 8 starter colors, the original game only had a total of 5 colors to choose from.
Icon | Body Color | Description | Notes |
DJ Blue | Subtle but sweet. A color favored by import tuners for years. This is Ramone's favorite color.
Chick Hicks Green | Could there be a color more suited to Chick Hicks? The answer is, 'No'. This is Ramone's favorite color.
Gray Vee | If you had 5 cars in a row painted this color, would you have a Gray Vee train? This is Ramone's favorite color.
Octagonal Orange | Octagonal Orange? Math Geeks love this color. This is Ramone's favorite color.
Powerhouse Purple | You might not be any faster, but you sure feel that way in this color. This is Ramone's favorite color.
Red Lightning | Is there any other color that signifies speed more? This is Ramone's favorite color. | Only available during the Test Track.
Not-So-Mellow Yellow | Inside or outside, this color's so bright, you better wear shades. This is Ramone's favorite color. | Only available during the Test Track.
Flamingo Pink | It's a lot like red, only lighter. This is Ramone's favorite color. | Only available during the Test Track. |
Name[]
Instead of writing your own name, the game had a system of pre-selected names. The game required you to choose both a first and last name. Like the chassis advanced option, there was a shuffle option you could use that would select a name for you. The full list of pre-selected names can be find here.
Number[]
You could pick a number anywhere from 0 to 99 (except 43, 69, 86 and 95). Since all numbers had two digits, the 0's would go from 00 to 09. You could also choose number color and style.
Beginner items[]
A bunch of basic items were added to your inventory to customize your car. Since these were given at the start of the game, you didn't need Sponsorship to use them.
Paint jobs | Item | Description |
Classic Racing Stripe | You could only be cooler if you had some gold rims, a spoiler and maybe a bigger exhaust pipe. |
Trivia[]
- The Test Track had some differences:
- Red Lightning, Not-So-Mellow Yellow and Flamingo Pink were starter colors. After the Pre-Beta ended, they could only be bought at Ramone's House of Body Art.
- The Fettuccini Alfredo Tires were named White-Walled Tires.
- Every item had "(More Items Coming in 2009!)" at the end of their description.
- Entering Race Codes unlocked you more items to customize your car (in november 2009, all the unlocked items were removed from your inventary to prepare the Open Beta).
- When the game opened, a quest named Free Body Work consisted in using the advanced chassis options. This could only be done once as you needed sponsorship to customize your car again.
- Game developers hinted possibility of introducing trucks, however it never happened.
