Raoul ÇaRoule and the other drivers at the Tokyo welcoming party.

In Cars 2, Raoul ÇaRoule first appeared on TV during the Mel Dorado Show when all the racers were forming the World Grand Prix logo. At the Tokyo welcoming party,in the french version,he is physically seen for the first time early where he and Lewis Hamilton greet Lightning McQueen when he arrives and raoul later points at mater talking to zen master, however his role is given to other characters in other versions of the film, during the driver introduction, Miles Axelrod introduces him at the moment when Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell get on the canapés. He is physically seen for the first time(second time in the french version)when Mater drives by screaming after accidentally eating too much wasabi which he mistook for pistachio ice cream because of the color and texture). He is parked next to Max Schnell and Miguel Camino and appears surprised by the situation. He is seen again with the other racers a little later when McQueen turns around after Mater drinks from the water wall fountain. When McQueen takes Mater aside to tell him to go to the restroom, Miguel Camino seems to be talking to Raoul.

During the Tokyo Grand Prix, his pit stop is number 7, behind Jeff Gorvette and in front of Shu Todoroki. During the warm-up lap, as the camera follows Raoul, the commentator Brent Mustangburger declares, "French rally car Raoul ÇaRoule is counting on a big boost headed through there". Like the other drivers, Raoul weaves to warm up his tires. He appears focused, determined, but also seems to be enjoying the excitement of the race's beginning. Once the warm-up lap is completed, Raoul is seen in the first position on the starting grid. Thanks to a strong acceleration, Raoul takes the lead. Miguel Camino seems eager to pass him quickly but fails. Eventually, Max Schnell succeeds in passing Raoul on the left, followed by Carla Veloso on the right a few seconds later. Bernoulli and McQueen, in their remarkable comeback, pass him a little later on the long straightaway. In the first corner, Raoul ÇaRoule is in seventh place. Around the turn near the Tokyo Imperial Palace, Raoul is fifth behind Carla Veloso before being overtaken by Max Schnell just before the dirt section. While most of the drivers in front of him lose speed, Raoul takes the opportunity to shift to the left and pass both Max Schnell and Carla Veloso, and then Shu Todoroki shortly after. As Francesco encounters difficulties and skids, McQueen overtakes him on the outside of the turn, sliding, and Raoul does the same with great ease. He takes advantage of this section to make up for his slight delay and doesn't hesitate to soar over the bumps, much like McQueen. Upon exiting the dirt section, Raoul stays on the left side of the track and is overtaken by all the competitors. He makes up some ground in the following turns, passing Jeff Gorvette and Miguel Camino, but ends up at the back on the Rainbow Bridge. In the subsequent laps, this pattern likely repeats, with Raoul gaining positions in the corners but forced to remain at the back on the straightaways due to his lower top speed. Raoul ultimately finishes eighth in the race due to the engine failures and retirements of the drivers Miguel Camino, Rip Clutchgoneski, and Max Schnell.

During the Porto Corsa Grand Prix, Raoul initially occupies the eleventh and last position at the end of the warm-up lap. He gets off to a good start and sticks close to the driver Rip Clutchgoneski but remains in that position. In turn number 38's hairpin, he moves up to the ninth position, ahead of Miguel Camino and Rip, and maintains this position on the Casino Bridge. Later in the race, the gaps between the competitors become significantly wider. After the accidents involving Carla Veloso and Nigel Gearsley, Shu Todoroki blew his engine on lap 60. Miguel Camino and Max Schnell crashed into the Japanese driver in the middle of the bridge. Traveling at full speed, Raoul ÇaRoule, then in sixth place, brakes as hard as possible but skids and collides with Max on his right side. Rip Clutchgoneski, who was closely following Raoul, collides with his left side, lifting him up, and Raoul ends up facing the wrong way. Jeff Gorvette and Lewis Hamilton manage to stop before hitting the other competitors. Raoul appears dazed but sustains minimal damage given the severity of the crash. However, due to the force of the braking, smoke emanates from his brake discs. As a result, Raoul did not finish the race and, like the other victims, is attended to by multiple ambulances.

In Mater's hallucination, we can see Raoul laughing loudly and making fun of Mater, just like the other racers. However, this scene is the product of Mater's imagination during his sleep because in reality, Raoul and most of the other drivers were simply shocked and surprised by the situation.

During the final race, the London Grand Prix, Raoul occupies the twelfth and last pit stall and also starts from the last position. As the race begins, Raoul grimaces, possibly indicating his dissatisfaction with his start. However, he quickly overtakes Rip Clutchgoneski before reaching the Buckingham Palace turn and maintains this position for a significant portion of the race. By the time Mater enters the track, Raoul is in the eighth position or better, considering that Miguel Camino, Carla Veloso, and Lewis Hamilton are at the back. The race is later canceled, and it's impossible to determine Raoul's position at the time of the cancellation.

Raoul CaRoule takes part in the Radiator Springs Grand Prix, the fourth unofficial race. Following the scandal that unfolded, and like the other racers, Raoul does not display any Allinol logos on his livery for this race. At the end of the warm-up lap, Raoul is positioned in seventh place, alongside Rip Clutchgoneski. He greets the audience and appears happy to be part of the race. At the start, drivers Nigel Gearsley and Lewis Hamilton have a somewhat poor start, while Rip Clutchgoneski gets a good jump. Raoul takes advantage of this and immediately shifts to the left, allowing him to navigate the first turn more effectively. He rapidly gains several positions by driving off the track onto the dirt. He seemed to enjoy riding fast on the dirt, while Rip Clutchgoneski, Miguel Camino, Lewis Hamilton and Max Schnell looked on with amusement. He alternates between the third and fourth positions, keeping pace with Carla Veloso. On the Willy's Butte, he manages to stay very much on the inside of the turn, but Shu Todoroki overtakes him. When Mater arrives with his rockets, Raoul is on the track this time, in the third position, but he gets passed by Carla Veloso a few seconds later. In the final scene of the film, he is in the fourth position, very close to Carla Veloso on his left and just behind Francesco Bernoulli.

Raoul ÇaRoule World Grand Prix logo

Raoul is a 2006 Global Rally Car Racer according to Meet the Cars. It is a Pixar in-house influenced by various rally cars, with the Citroën C4 WRC being his primary inspiration. His model year, 2006, is a reference to this car first being introduced at a 2006 car show before making its first debut race in 2007. His spoiler resembles the one from the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRC2008. During the production of the film, Citroën contacted Pixar complaining Raoul looked too much like their hatchback. Character art director Jay Shuster had to make a diagram of the character pointing out all the differences, and how the cars weren't the same. He is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 300 HP. With his all-wheel drive (AWD), he can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 124.3 mph. He is painted in the French national colors, blue, white and red, with the letters "GRC", an allusion to the WRC, the World Rally Championship, written in blue across the white column.

Written on his tires is the phrase "Rouler Vite", which translates to "Roll Fast" in French, or more in context, "Drive Fast". A smaller inscription indicates the tire's ISO code: P210/70R18 99S. This code defines certain tire parameters. The "P" denotes that it is a passenger vehicle tire, "210" represents the tire's inflated width, measured from one sidewall to the other (in millimeters), "70" indicates the sidewall height in relation to the tire's width, expressed as a percentage (here, 147 mm), "R" specifies the tire's construction type (in this case, radial), "18" stands for the rim diameter in inches, "99" is the load-carrying capacity index (here, equal to 775 kg), and "S" denotes the maximum speed the tire can handle (here, equal to 180 km/h). It is clear that these parameters do not align with Raoul's tires, perhaps this code is simply an advertisement for a different, more commercial type of tire.

Personality and traits[]

Powers and abilities[]

Raoul is one of the most talented French rally cars in the world, and as such, was invited to the World Grand Prix to compete against ten of the other greatest champions around the globe. Trivia[]

Frenchversion

Raoul Caroule in the French version of Cars 2.

  • In the French version, Raoul ÇaRoule replaces Jeff Gorvette as the car Lightning McQueen meets at the World Grand Prix welcome party along with Lewis Hamilton.
  • The French rally racer character in Cars 2 (that ended as Raoul ÇaRoule in the final film) was first supposed to be a female car, named Michèle, in allusion to Michèle Mouton, that finished second in 1982 in WRC. After the character was changed to a Sebastien Loeb-inspired racer, he was first named Sebastien Citroën.
  • Raoul Caroule is the only background World Grand Prix racer to not have his engine blown by the lemon's Camera
  • Raoul Caroule is the slowest World Grand Prix racer, with the top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h) as mentioned, as he's usually shown in the back of the pack. Despite that he's usually seen ahead of Rip Clutchgoneski and was seen in front of Miguel Camino during the Porto Corsa race. At the start of the Tokyo race, he was seen in the 4th or 5th positions. However, despite his slow speed, he is incredibly fast on dirt.
  • In the DS version of Cars 2: The Video Game, Raoul's engine is exploded by Grem at the Germany race.
  • The essential guide for Cars 2 claims Raoul's top speed is 200 mph/322 km/h, but as mentioned above, Raoul's actual top speed is 124 mph/200 km/h.
  • Although Raoul is based on the Citroën C4 WRC, which has a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 with 315 HP, he has a 1.6-liter turbocharged I4 engine with 300 HP which suggest that he also takes influence from the 2011 WRC cars unveiled in 2010, either the Citroën DS3 WRC or Ford Fiesta RS WRC. He also happens to be a bit more compact than the actual car, which may be why he is a light weight in Cars 2: The Video Game.
  • Raoul's last name, ÇaRoule, literally means in French "it rolls", which could be translated more in context as "all good" or "to go fast."
  • His hauler is named Andre, who never appeared in the movie, but instead it has been released as a Stunt Racers playset.
  • According to The Art of Cars 2 concept art, Raoul ÇaRoule was originally going to be sponsored by Vitoline.
  • In the Rally Racers event of the Transcontinental Race of Champions, Raoul ÇaRoule was sponsored by RevNew in The Official Magazine.
