"Real Gone" is the first track on the Cars soundtrack. The song was written by John Shanks and Sheryl Crow and is performed by Sheryl Crow. It plays in the beginning of the first movie, starting from when Lightning McQueen came out of his trailer, and ended right before Chick Hicks bumped Lightning into the field, causing him to fall behind to last place.
Billy Ray Cyrus did a cover version of this song for Disneymania 6, with the lyrics "Bud Light, Chevrolet" changed to "Apple pie, Chevrolet" to make it more kid-friendly. Disney's Karaoke Series: Cars features an instrumental version of the song as well as a vocal version sung by Laura Lynn. Pop rock band Honor Society would also record a cover of "Real Gone" for Disneymania 7.
Lyrics[]
(Note: Bold lyrics are not in the movie.)
- [Verse 1]
- I'm American made,
- Bud Light, Chevrolet,
- My momma taught me wrong from right.
- I was born in the South,
- Sometimes I have a big mouth,
- When I see something that I don't like.
- I gotta say it!
- [Verse 2]
- Well, we've been driving this road
- For a mighty long time,
- Paying no mind to the signs.
- Well, this neighborhood's changed,
- It's all been rearranged,
- We left that change somewhere behind.
- [Chorus]
- Slow down, you're gonna crash!
- Baby, you were screaming it's a blast, blast, blast!
- Well, look out babe, you've got your blinders on,
- Everybody's looking for a way to get real gone!
- Real gone!
- Real gone!
- [Verse 3]
- Well, there's a new cat in town,
- He's got high-paid friends,
- Thinks he's gonna change history.
- You think you know him so well,
- Yeah, you think he's so swell!
- But he's just perpetuating prophecy!
- Come on, now!
- [Chorus]
- Slow down, you're gonna crash!
- Baby, you were screaming it's a blast, blast, blast!
- Well, look out babe, you've got your blinders on,
- Everybody's looking for a way to get real gone!
- Real gone!
- Real gone!
- Real gone!
- Uhh!
- (Instrumental)
- [Bridge]
- Well, you can say what you want,
- But you can't say it ‘round here,
- Cause they'll catch you and give you a whippin'.
- Well, I believe I was right,
- When I said you were wrong.
- You didn't like the sound of that...
- Now, did ya?
- [Chorus]
- Slow down, you're gonna crash!
- Baby you're a-screaming, it's a blast, blast, blast!
- Well look out, you've got your blinders on!
- Everybody's looking for a way to get real gone!
- [Outro]
- Well, here I come, and I'm so not scared,
- Got my pedal to the metal, got my hands in the air!
- Well look out, you take your blinders off!
- Everybody's looking for a way to get real gone,
- Real gone!
- Real gone!
- Ooh!
- Real gone!
- Real gone!
