Plot[]
This book takes place toward the end of Cars 2, though its scenes are not shown in the film. After the London Circuit of the World Grand Prix is suspended and Miles Axlerod being taken to prison, Francesco Bernoulli and Lightning McQueen have each won one race so they decide to hold a tiebreaker in Francesco's hometown of Monza, Italy. From the moment they arrive at the airport, Francesco resumes his customary bragging, pointing out that he has more fans awaiting his autograph than McQueen. During a warm-up he almost spins off the road, and McQueen shares some of Doc Hudson's advice and suggests using treaded tires for dirt courses.
The day of the race, Francesco has heeded McQueen's advice and shows up in treaded tires, handling the curves well. When the second leg of the race at the Monza Racetrack ends in a tie, the two agree to settle the score in McQueen's hometown this time, and with the boasting in more friendly terms, they head to the airport en route to the Radiator Springs Grand Prix seen in the final scenes of the film.
