- "Okay, Mcqueen, listen up..."
- —Chief Rusteze, Boom! Studios Comics
The Rust-eze crew chief was the first crew chief of the Rust-eze racing team, working for Lightning McQueen and possibly for Racer 01 or Racer 67 before they retired. Sometime after the race of the Beachside Speedway, he either quit or was fired sometime prior to the events of part 4 being replaced with an unidentified crew chief, and next with Chuck taking the latter's place as Lightning's crew chief.
History
Cars
Mcqueen gets introduced to his pit crew, which may also include Not Chuck.
Due to him leaving the team prior, he does not make an appearance in the film at all, but is indirectly mentioned by Darrell Cartrip in Cars. He says that McQueen recently fired three crew chiefs in one season, and he is racing in the Dinoco 400 without any coaching.
Boom! Studios Comics
Rust-eze crew chief coaches Mcqueen.
The original Rust-eze crew chief makes a physical appearance in a Boom! Studios Comics issue, where he is shown to be McQueen's former crew chief.
Trivia
- He seems to have also been working for the 01 racer before Mcqueen since he stated that the old racer didn't speed away from the pits before his pit crew could finish tightening his lugnuts like Mcqueen did.
- It's unknown who actually took his place as Mcqueen's crew chief after he left, the unidentified second crew chief never appeared in any form of media.
- In the comic, he lacks visible ''Rust-eze'' decals along with the other pit teams shown in the latter, despite this, if he were ever to appear in Cars he would likely have them as Mcqueen's original pit crew (such as Not Chuck) had the decals in the film when they aren't visible in the comic.
- The reason for him leaving the team is unknown, though it's possible he was tired of Mcqueen's arrogance like the rest of the Rust-eze team.
