"You better run. They say there's a Banshee out here somewhere tonight, but I ain't seen him yet. Good night."
Mater, Mater and the Ghostlight

The Screamin' Banshee (unofficially also known as Screaming Banshee) is a giant truck appearing at the very end of Mater and the Ghostlight.

Since he doesn't appear often, the origins of the Screamin' Banshee himself are unknown. It's also unknown where he resides. He may have been in a wreck once since he has an eye smashed.

History[]

Mater and the Ghostlight[]

In Mater and the Ghostlight, during a post-credits scene, he comes to scare Mater, having been said by Doc Hudson to haunt Ornament Valley. However, Mater does not recognize him, telling him that he had better run, and leaves back to his home for the night, leaving the Banshee confused.

Two Ton Heroes[]

In "Two Ton Heroes", a four issue Story Arc written by Alan J. Porter, the Screamin' Banshee was going to appear as the "Ultra-Banshee", a fearsome menace to Radiator Springs and Lightning Storm universe.

Glow Racers[]

In the Glow Racers book, Mater mentions possibilities of Lightning and Cruz's doom. One of the scenarios involving the Screamin' Banshee.

Physical appearance[]

Screamin' Banshee is a giant yellow (monster) truck with a cab that appears to be that of a semi-truck with large spiky tires, giant exhaust pipes protruding from his sides and a dumper on his back. He has many elements of construction machinery, He also has a tow hook (meaning tow truck), excavator arm and crane arm, The wheels are made of iron similar to that of a paver. His right eye (viewer's left) is smashed and is discolored gray.

Personality[]

Not much is known about Banshee's personality, but he appears to come off as furious. His only known dialogue are growls and grunts.

Bio[]

"The Screamin' Banshee lurks outside of Radiator Springs in Ornament Valley. The Banshee waits for anyone who wanders out alone in the darkness of night. He is rarely spotted but is well known through myths and legends. Nothing can make the Banshee show fear. However, he is a bit puzzled by Mater[2]."

Trivia[]

  • Fun fact: He is the only original character to debut in the short.
  • His cabin is actually similar to a modified, rusty or dirty version of Mack. Though he has no model name (aside from the closest being "Banshee" on his jaw), it is unknown if he is a "debadge" of one, or a separate unrelated model of a different name.
  • Although Banshee may resemble a Mack, he bears striking resemblance to Dr. Frankenwagon's Monster from the future Cars Toon short Monster Truck Mater. However, the latter resembles more of a Peterbilt. Coincidentally, both trucks canonically appear in the universe.
  • His paint job resembles Bessie.
  • His tires must be as big as the "Bigfoot 5" monster truck.
  • Screamin' Banshee's name was based on the Irish legend of the Banshee. While the latter is said to be a female spirit, the Banshee is said by Mater to be male.
    • He also appears to be like as if he could swallow an entire car and digest it into scrap metal.
  • He was briefly mentioned in the 31st Cars magazine published in Italy.
  • He was scheduled for a 1:55 series diecast release but was cancelled.[3] Only one prototype is known to exist, but is missing the excavator arm. It is also depicted in green as opposed to the correct color of yellow.
  • His broken right eye notably resembles that of a real car's smashed windshield, but it's unknown why it's discolored. And it's unknown how he lost his right eye.
    • He is also the only character to date with such.
