World War II was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. The vast majority of the world's countries participated. It was perpetrated by Germany (at the time known as Nazi Germany) in September 1939 when the country invaded Poland while forming a military alliance with Italy (Fascist Italy) and Japan (Empire of Japan) known as the Axis powers. This invasion quickly spread throughout a large portion of Europe, causing mass destruction, terrorism, and genocide across multiple continents and prompted the United Kingdom to form an opposing military alliance known as the Allied powers, in which it allied itself with various countries including the United States, Canada, China, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Poland, the Soviet Union (later Russia) and various others. Some countries such as Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Spain were forced to remain neutral during the war, but because of deliberate attacks on them by the Axis powers, very few remained neutral till the end. Millions of deaths around the world occurred during the war, and prompted the establishment of a global organization known as the United Nations, which aims to ensure global peace.
During the war, among the United States servicemen were Sarge, commander Davis, Captain Skipper Riley, Foxtrot, Lucas, Jigsaw Two, Jigsaw Three, Jigsaw Four Walter O'Wheely, USS Saratoga, USS Enterprise, USS Flysenhower. In the British Army, grandfather of Corporal Josh Coolant served. Davis was fighting in the European theatre of war as commander of Red Tail Squadron. Skipper Riley was flying with his squadron (part of Jolly Wrenches) in the Pacific War. He lost his entire squadron in battle of Glendal Canal and was the only survivor.
